Success and lifestyle design

Now that we’ve understood a bit more about happiness and how to achieve, we shall move into what this book is really about: lifestyle design.  Funky success mission is to give you the knowledge and practical step-by-step approach in order to achieve your own lifestyle.

NOTE: I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel as Tim Ferris did a wonderful job with his 4HWW book, but rather want to give you my approach.

As opposed to traditional success, which is more often then not really concern about money and how to obtain it, Funky success is a mix of those 3 components:

  1. Freedom of Time
  2. Freedom of Location
  3. Automated income

Freedom of Time

Time is undervalued, and money overvalued.  There is no point of having all the money in the world, if you don’t have the time to use or to spend it.  Rolf Potts, one of the world’s greatest vagabonders says the time not income is your greatest value.  I actually knew quite a few wealthy people, which admired travellers that could take a year or more to go travelling.  Even tough, they had the financials,  they couldn’t, as their business consumed so much of their time and believed that with out them the empire would collapse.  Maybe, maybe not.  And  who am I to judge.  But at the end of the day, if you make all this money in order not to make your dreams come true, what is the point?

One of my biggest accomplishments is to be able to spend time with my family and loved one, when they come to town.  Being free of my time allocation is one of my biggest assets.  I still don’t understand why people when presented with the options of doing an extra shifts in a job they hate, and have more free time to spend on things that really matter to them, always choose the first option.

One last I thing I want to mention about the value of time from an economic point of vue.  Your time, is one of the thing that is limited, once it is gone it will never come back.  As opposed to money, it is virtually unlimited, meaning that if you loose it all, you can still get it all back the next day and even more.  It is not even surprising to notice that many of the wealthiest are convince that if they loose it all , they will still find a way to make it all possible again (and there are many examples to back it up)

Freedom of Location

Through out my freelancer career I had the chance to work many times over from remote location and to manage outsource team.  On every occasion it proved to be a success and even showed that you could be way more productive in the comfort of your home then in a busy environment of typical office.

I’m not preaching that businesses should only have their work force in remote location or outsourced, as there might still be many advantages for a team to be close together, but in a lot of cases it is a perfectly viable business solution.  Especially in a project based environment (which in my domain is the only way to work) where each members knows and is personally responsible for his own tasks, and where the project manager is only playing the role of the liaison person.

Automated income

Nor freedom of time or location will be possible without placing your income on auto-pilot.  The important thing is not to have a lot and be a millionaire, but to have a steady stream of cash flow generated if you are working or not.  I won’t go into the details as I have a whole chapter on muse creation, but let me give your some pointers:

  1. The best solution is a an Information product;
  2. Tested before you build it, and Fake it until you make it
  3. The importance of being remarkable;
  4. Create results by monitoring and testing

By having freedom of time, location and automated income you will most likely obtain funky success.  Now that we know what the elements are, let’s focus on the implementation; by understand the funky success process.
